Soloquacious is a piece for solo saxophone. Its two movements are labeled Recitative and Aria. The Recitative is a dialogue between two competing ideas. The first is an energetic gesture based on funk rhythms and the second is a slower moving melodic idea based on thirds. The two ideas vie back and forth before ending up in a heated argument. The movement ends with no obvious winner.  The Aria settles thing down by combining both ideas into a reflective melancholic song.
